Review of 10/24's Soggy Game

From El Capitan Meldrum:

Last Monday, despite the rainy conditions, we were able to play the first game. I am happy to report that we forged a 9-4 win in five innings. Brad pitched an excellent game, holding Medium Pace scoreless until the bottom of the last inning.

Of course our defense was a big contributor to this, with excellent plays in both the infield and outfield. Mike Chapman made what may have been the play of the season when he raced back to his left for a ball hit deep to the fence, got the end of his glove on the ball only to have it pop out, but then caught the ball as he was falling to the soggy ground. I believe that one of his feet hit the bottom of the fence as he was making the final catch. Since there were two men on base at the time with two outs, that catchwas huge for us.

Mike also had several big hits, as did Chris Boniface, Jeff Donald and Al Schneider. Al Boyd had a big two-out double in the top of the fourth inning to drive in our last two runs. I think his screaming line drive actually hit the bottom of the left-center-field fence on the fly, which at Shirley Park is quite a poke.I'm still trying to reconstruct the scorebook stats, as despite my best efforts to keep them covered, the game pages got quite wet. I have not heard anything about a makeup for the rained-out second game. As soon as I do, I'll let everyone know.
